Canada made it through to the final in the WHC this afternoon (local time) after beating the Czech Republic 8-4, after an incredibly entertaining last period.
Canada was leading 3-2 coming into the 3rd. The Czech’s equalized just a couple of minutes in, after a fantastic play in the Canadian zone, that brought back memories of one of the greatest lines ever – Larionov, Krutov, Makarov.
At this point, the Canadians had hardly touched the puck in this last period, the Canadian coach (Andy Murray) took timeout.
This apparently woke them, they came out blazing and retook the lead just a minute and a half later.
After this, the game somewhat died – at least result wise, the Czech’s looked like they more or less gave up. The game started going back and forth, back and forth with the Canadians scoring 4 more goals and the Czech’s one.
Right now, Sweden leads the second semi-final 3-1 4 minutes into the last period, after goals by Mika Hannula, Peter Bondra and twice by Mats Sundin.
Go Sweden Go!!
