I’ve had problems getting SuSE 8.2 to start dhcp on my wireless pcmcia card that I use in my laptop at home. For some reason, that I haven’t figured out yet but it’s one of either SuSE’s impementation or a change in the kernel pcmcia drivers, this interface is now called wlan0<\/b> instead of eth0<\/b> that it was called in 8.1.<\/p>\n
At last I figured it out after deleting all network devices in yast and then creating a new wireless one. After this it still didn’t work, but now I got log messages helping me:<\/p>\n
ifup: No configuration found for wlan-pcmcia-1 wlan0<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\nGoing into \/etc\/sysconfig\/network I found the file ifcfg-eth-pcmcia<\/i>. I tried to create a symlink from this file to ifcfg-wlan-pcmcia-1<\/i>, which solved the problem. My guess is that this is the file that yast should have created instead of the one that it did create.<\/p>\n
I’ll see if I can figure out what yast is doing wrong, so that I can log it as a bug with SuSE.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
